Varietal mead fermented from local acacia honey.

Sweet mead with taste of acacia honey.
Acacia forests of southern Slovakia reveal the transformation of flower to crystal clear honey. Thanks to it, the Old Slavic light mead has the typical honey flavor with a hint of freshly blooming acacia. The light yellow color is unique and it is reflecting the warm rays of the sun and freshly mown fields. Just a small cup and a weekday is transformed into special moment.
Old Slavic mead light is pure natural honey wine made according to the original recipe of acacia honey. It's a honey from acacia that groves in southern Slovakia. It is very light in colour with a pleasant mild and delicate flavour. This mead uniquely combines the delicious taste and delicate honey aroma typical of acacia honey.
Best to be enjoyed slowly from the long-stemmed glasses, cooled down to 12-16 °C. Can be also drank hot, heated to 55-60 °C.
Light acacia mead has been produced since 2005.

mead

Mead is an alcoholic beverage fermented from honey and water, with possibility of addition of other ingredients such as spices or herbs or in combination with fruit juices.

Classical mead

Classical mead is made by fermenting honey and water without any other ingrediences. It keeps its original honey flavour and taste.

Type of honey

Blossom honey or nectar comes from the nectar of various flowers.

The most popular and still rarer acacia honey and mead.

Production process

This mead was boiled before fermentation. The thermal process has certain technological advantages, however, some valuable components of honey are damaged, especially during prolonged boiling. You will not recognize the production process in taste, but it is typical for boiled mead that they are more golden in color because honey partially caramelize at high temperatures.

Producer Apimed

Apimed is one of the largest meaderies in Slovakia. Their meads have won numerous global awards, including the "Best mead in the world" in 2015.

The company APIMED was founded in 1998. However, the beginnings of beekeeping activities date back to 1982. In addition to its own production of honey and bee products, the company has built up an extensive supply network of beekeepers throughout Slovakia from the most ecologically clean areas. Due to the production of over 300,000 liters of mead per year, the own beehives cannot cover production needs. Each purchased batch of honey is laboratory tested at the ŠVaPÚ in Dolní Kubín and then classified according to type and included in production.

In 2015 and 2023, Medovina akatová barrique won the award Best mead in the world.
Meads are produced using heat, they are boiled.

Apimed brand meads have won the most world awards from Slovak producers, and we have all of them on permanent offer for you at Medovinarna, because you liked them too.
